Walthamstow Beer Project 2024
A very warm welcome to the Walthamstow Beer Project 2024, whether you are returning or considering joining us for the first time.
Who are we?
We are a non-profit-making community-based hop-growing, beer making and social project. We are proud to announce our launch for the 11th successive year with our partners - the prestigious, award-winning East London Brewing Company Ltd. Last year proved to be another successful year for us, and despite the, at times, erratic weather the Walthamstow Beer Project was a fantastic success with over 200 + dedicated members, a wonderful, sunny hop picking and brewing day, producing over 7,000 pints of the most delicious green-hoped pale ale. And here we are again, ready for another great year!
Why join?
If you are green-fingered, have access to a local garden, an allotment or even a pot; you can grow your own hop plant (rhizome) from scratch, harvest its hops in September; and then have a fun and informative day with a great bunch of people, creating beer with the experts from the brewery.
What do I get for my money?
If you are new to the project you will be able to pick up your hop plant (freshly harvested from a hop farm in Kent) from us on 23 March 2024 at the East London Brewery, and you will be given expert guidance on how to grow it with regular newsletters containing growing tips and info on the WBP.
The hop picking day is always great fun and as usual will be held at the East London Brewery (a Sunday in September tbc) with beer and a free BBQ to keep us all refreshed. (After all hop picking can be hard work!)
As if that wasn’t enough, you’ll also get a personal invite to the launch night - date and venue to be announced - to drink the very beer you have lovingly made (two free pints!), and even have a three-bottle gift pack of your beer to take away, enjoy and share. Additional bottles can also be purchased at a very reasonable price and make fantastic Christmas gifts (you have to plan ahead!)
Sounds great but how much will this all cost?
Great news - despite the cost of living crisis, we are keeping the prices the same as last year, so…..
If you already have hop plants from previous years, for a modest fee of £20 you can sign up again this year.
If you are new to the project and would like to start from scratch with a new hop rhizome or you are returning but would also like to buy a new hop plant the cost is £30 – I’m sure you will agree, what a bargain!
